MINK ENGINE is the audiovisual product of ASKII and TOUCH ME TIGER, a couple of cult figures in sonix and grafix. While TOUCH ME TIGER sprays her inimitable blend of illustration and animation across the screen, ASKII pushes peoples buttons with his electro-rock beats and delicious melodies.
This pooling of skills makes for a special event. MINK ENGINE are promoting beats and pix that are made for each other, and which compliment each other.
ASKII’s music takes us on a joyride into a strange world of rhythms and melodies. A world where synthesizers and drum machines are taking holidays, or going on expeditions, to places where people drive around in sushi, past talking apples.
Inspired by 70’s and 80’s European synth heroes like Jarre, Faltermeyer and Kraftwerk, ASKII’s style is electrorock. It’s all about the little variations between the melodies and textures of the synths, and between the rhythms of the synths and drums. The music is dancefloor friendly, but it isn’t typical dance music. At times it’s very cinematic, other times very tongue-in-cheek: it’s simultaneously very serious and very fun!
TOUCH ME TIGER exploits the regular VJ platform, presenting totally original narrative-based animation, using subject matter that not only WOWs the audience, but keeps them glued to the screen waiting for the next twist or turn in the plot.
TOUCH ME TIGER’s grafix include talking blue apples, sushi with mag-wheels and sex-dolls with real problems. Stories are told by an unexpected cast of characters such as, Dick Chicken, Octapussy, Doctor Daikon, the Raunchy Banana and pornstar turned talk-show host, Stig Lipstick.
The marriage of ASKII and TOUCH ME TIGER’s talents has spawned MINK ENGINE, a new, live spectacular, that must be experienced to be comprehended!
They have played well received shows at venues such as SOFT, LA FABRIQUE, 66 MODERN, LAS CHICAS and Ledeco in Tokyo!
MINK ENGINE toured the East Coast of Australia in January/February 2003, and brought twisted joy LIVE to Aussie’s in Melbourne and Sydeny. MINK ENGINE are currently at their headquarters in Tokyo producing new vocalized beats and perverted pictures to scare the children.
