“It’s not easy to describe where Cuthbert and the Night Walkers are coming from. The best we can do is to recall a review of a Flaming Lips show which likened the spectacle to a child’s first birthday party organized by the parents while on acid. We wanted to be in a band like that.

With this idea firmly planted in our heads, the fresh and delightfully odd CATNW was born in mid-2005 with three boys on instruments and five girls in a choir. Like any good party, the more the merrier, and the Night Walkers have recently been joined by a percussionist and a pianist.

CATNW listen to Sufjan Stevens, Augie March, big Broadway finales, The Polyphonic Spree, nursery rhymes, Bright Eyes, and anyone who can write a song.”

I was hell bent on seeing these guys after hearing “Red Frogs” on Fbi a few times. I fell for them hard, but I was worried that I was being sucked in by a particularly charming novelty track. Maybe it was all a big tease… but they proved me wrong! I caught them at the Marquee in Dec ‘06. They’re fun, they sound good, and best of all - they’re overflowing with great pop songs.

I’m guessing lead-singer Richie is the main songwriter. He’s a laid-back indie-rock-god waiting to happen. His love of music is contagious. And if their 2006 pre-xmas efforts are anything to go by, they may not be waiting long for the world to discover their charms. They must have played about 5 shows in the last week of Dec!
