The mega-successful Cat Empire aren’t exactly what you’d call indie, but I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for them. So when I heard that Harry Angus had started a new project I was a bit curious. And when I heard it was influenced by M.I.A., and had a bit of a hip-hop flavour, I was VERY curious.

Jackson Jackon’s debut album, The Fire In On The Bird is really fun. It sounds like they had tons of fun making it. Musically it’s all over the place. It’s a euphoric jumble of lyrical flows, stripped back blues, indian chorus, brazillian drums, ridiculous art-rock keys, and raucous brass. It sounds like it could be really hideous, but amazingly it’s not.

Angus is telling it how he sees it, letting of steam, and having a lot of fun in the process. And the end result might even inspire you to get up off your seat and join the International Society of Bad Dancers.
